Camila Acosta Camargo is the Senior Manager, Air Quality Solutions Exchange at C40 Cities, where she supports the Bloomberg Cities Idea Exchange, focusing on air pollution and low-cost sensors. She possesses extensive expertise in communications, advocacy, and project management in Brazil, with a particular focus on the intersection of health, climate, and air quality. Camila has advocated for Brazilian air quality regulations, monitoring, and standards, and also helped establish a coalition to promote air quality monitoring in the Brazilian Amazon. She holds a PhD and a Master’s degree in Communication Sciences, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Social Communication with an emphasis in Public Relations, all from the University of São Paulo (USP). Camila was also a fellow researcher at the University of East Anglia in the UK and is a member of the Communication and Work Research Center at USP.

ASIC LATAM Co-Chair Luis Abdón Cifuentes is a civil engineer at the Catholic University of Chile. He has a Masters in Civil Engineering and hold a Ph.D in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. Cifuentes is a professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering and Systems. Before, he was an associate professor and associate researcher at the Department of Engineering and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University. His teaching includes courses on Environmental Management, Risk Analysis, Environmental Economics and Project Evaluation. He supervised numerous Masters and Doctoral Theses in these areas, as well as in Impact of Air Pollution and Risk Perception. He was also a consultant for the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, for the Clean Air Initiative for Latin American Cities, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank. Cifuentes was a lead author for the third and fourth IPCC report and a active contributor to the US EPA’s Integrated Environmental Strategies. He authored studies for CONAMA, CNE, SECTRA and various private sector companies. He is a member of the Society for Risk Analysis, the Air and Waste Management Association, and the International Society of Environmental Epidemiology, among others.

ASIC LATAM Co-Chair Cristóbal de la Maza is an Industrial Civil Engineer from Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and holds a PhD in Engineering and Public Policy from Carnegie Mellon University. He is principal researcher on sustainability and data science at San Sebastián University and Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Between 2019 and 2022 he served as Superintendent for the Environment of Chile, leading the national agency in charge of environmental enforcement and compliance. Previously, he served as Director at the Environmental and Climate Change Division of the Ministry of Energy, where he led the design and implementation of the National Decarbonization Strategy to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 and drafted legislation on carbon emission markets. From 2010 to 2014 he was Director of the Information and Environmental Economics Division at the Ministry of Environment, where he led the design and implementation of the National Green Growth Strategy, of several air quality and emission standards, and decontamination plans on criteria pollutants, and he administer national Pollutant Release and Transfer Register. As a researcher, he specializes in environmental economics and policy, decision science and machine learning, and has published several articles in specialized journals.

Sebastián Diez is a Researcher at the Center for Research in Technology for Society at Universidad del Desarrollo (Chile) and a Visiting Researcher at the Wolfson Atmospheric Chemistry Laboratories (WACL), University of York. His work combines field measurements of trace gases and aerosols with satellite data and low-cost sensor technologies. He is co-chair of IGAC Allin-Wayra, an initiative focused on the use of small sensors in atmospheric science. Sebastián has collaborated with NGOs and local and regional governments on projects related to climate change and air quality, with a strong focus on building capacity in remote sensing and air monitoring across Latin America.

Zoё Fleming is an associate professor in the Centro de Investigación en Tecnologías para la Sociedad in the Faculty of Engineering at the Universidad Del Desarrollo (UDD) in Santiago. She is an atmospheric chemist with a strong interest in citizen science and community monitoring with sensors. She worked in various UK universities and the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS) before moving to Chile 8 years ago where she has a strong interest in monitoring in remote and difficult to access environments.

Armando Hurtado combines a background in biochemistry with over 5 years in environmental consulting, specializing in ambient air monitoring and odor mitigation. At SCS, Armando leads projects involving design of air monitoring programs, emissions assessments, and regulatory compliance for industrial and municipal clients. His role spans technical and leadership responsibilities, including systems troubleshooting, technology vetting, Public Relations, and QA/QC Manager. He sits on the Air & Waste Management Association’s Board as a Director.

Anil is a Professor of Air Quality Management, a Chartered Environmentalist and a Chartered Scientist. He a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society (FRMetS) and a Fellow of the Institute of Air Quality Management. He is a member of the Civil Aviation Authority’s Environmental Sustainability Panel, and an ad-hoc member of Defra’s Air Quality Expert Group (AQEG). He was a member of the NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) Public Health Advisory Committee deveping guideline (NG70) on Air Pollution: Outdoor Air Quality and Health). He is involved in the activities of the US Transportation Research Board’s Committee on Transportation and Air Quality (ADC20). His research bridges the gap between engineering, social science and public health. His research covers the monitoring, modelling and management aspects of air quality. His research focusses on air quality and health with special emphasis on personal exposure of population to air pollution. He is interested in environmental justice with a focus on understanding the links between land use, transportation, air quality, social deprivation and health. His recent work focuses on climate change (adaptation and mitigation) with particular emphasis on net-zero policies, strategies and practices. He has worked extensively in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America through academic collaborations and funded research projects.

Jeff Sanchez is Deputy Director of Sequoia Foundation, a California-based nonprofit dedicated to advancing public health and environmental initiatives. With more than 25 years of experience in environmental health, he has led projects and programs addressing air quality, lead poisoning prevention, and community-based environmental justice. His current projects include managing EPA- and CARB-funded air monitoring networks in Oakland and the Bay Area, co-directing a HUD-funded indoor air quality technical study in low-income housing, and developing a youth workforce program that connects high school students to environmental science careers. A certified Project Management Professional (PMP), Jeff specializes in coordinating multi-stakeholder collaborations with agencies such as the California Department of Public Health, Bay Area Air Quality Management District, local school districts, and community-based organizations.

ASIC Continutity Chair Dr. Daniel M. Westervelt is an Associate Research Professor at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory (LDEO). Dr. Westervelt is also an affiliate faculty member of the Columbia University Data Science Institute, an affiliated scientist with NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, and an air pollution advisor to the US State Department. He is also a Columbia University Climate and Life Fellow. He is also an affiliate professor at Université Mohammed VI Polytechnique in Benguerir, Morocco. His current research spans from air quality and climate modeling to deployment and calibration of low cost sensors for air quality. Prior to his faculty position at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, he worked as an Associate Research Scientist at LDEO, and as a Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy (STEP) postdoctoral research associate at Princeton University. He completed his PhD degree in May 2013 in Civil and Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University.
